The Anduze Bamboo Grove

A must-see tourist attraction in the Gard, the Prafrance bamboo grove nearAnduze offers a complete change of scenery in a bamboo forest… Located near the Le Castel Rose campsite, it’s only a few minutes’ drive to this must-see site in the Cévennes!

La bambouseraie de Prafrance (also known as Bambouseraie d’Anduze) is an exotic garden located in Générargues in the Gard region of France. Unique in Europe and particularly famous for its bamboo forest, the bamboo plantation covers 34 hectares (the park, the only part open to the public, covers 15 hectares). It lies 11 km south-west of Alès and just 2 km north of Anduze.

It’s an exceptional place dedicated to the cultivation and conservation of bamboos, as well as to the presentation of a wide variety of exotic plants. Among them are bamboos planted in 1856 by Eugène Mazel, a passionate botanist and explorer.

Bamboos thrive on this site, which benefits from a climate highly favorable to their cultivation, and form a veritable jungle. With his passion for nature, he will also plant exotic species from China, Japan, North America and the Himalayas.

The park’s beauty has also been the setting for several films, including Le Salaire de la peur (The Wages of Fear), based on the novel by Georges Arnaud, and Paul et Virginie.
